Wednesday Testimony Meeting

12:30 pm to 1:30 pm

What is a testimony meeting?

This weekly meeting, held in the church, focuses on the sharing of spiritual insights and healings that have come about through the study and practice of Christian Science.  It’s an opportunity for students of Christian Science to tell how it has blessed their lives.  Those who give the testimonies are motivated by gratitude and to glorify God.  The giving of these testimonies is entirely voluntary.

What can you expect?

The meeting includes singing a hymn from the Christian Science Hymnal at the beginning, middle and conclusion of the meeting. After the first hymn, a reader devotes the first part of the meeting to reading selections from the Bible and Science and Health with key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. The congregation also has a moment to pray silently and then say together the Lord’s Prayer. Then the congregation is invited to give testimonies.

Why a testimony meeting?

Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered Christian Science and founded the church, saw the importance.  An early student of hers commented “…so revolutionary were her teachings that, had she not been able to offer proof of their truth, they would have seemed completely unconvincing.”  In the Manual of The Mother Church, Mrs. Eddy quoted St. Paul pointing to the motivation for giving testimonies “Glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
